Are you passionate about collecting, managing and dealing with the complexity of structuring large quantities of data?

We are looking for a talented Senior Data Engineer to join our Analytics team within the Digital Paid Media Technology department at Tamedia. Working with a team of Data Analysts and Engineers, you will shape the data foundation of Tamedia to enable data-informed and data-driven decisions, to reach more readers and increase their satisfaction. This includes helping us build up a state-of-the-art data lake, improving the data pipelines and models which are used as a base for analysis and dashboards, supporting several stakeholders, including our newsrooms, the digital product, sales and marketing teams.

Your main responsibilities and duties:

• Oversee the department's data integration work, including building analytical models and related data pipelines to optimize customer experience, marketing activities, product and editorial processes

• Understand business objectives and make sure that our data infrastructure can support the current business challenges

• Provide and maintain reliable ETL pipelines for analytical data, including related tests and documentation

• Lead technical initiatives on our Analytics team, guide junior colleagues in the team

• Work closely with other data analysts in the team to develop solutions to transform data into useful, actionable information

• Leverage Big Data platform capabilities to enable analytics/ML model delivery

Your qualifications:

• Higher education degree in an industry-relevant field such as technology, economics, statistics, or equivalent experience

• 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer in a cloud-based environment (e.g. AWS, Google Cloud/Big Query)

• Significant experience working with large volumes of data and/or complex data models and capable of investigating, familiarizing, and mastering new data sets quickly

• Significant working experience with ETL processes, designing and optimizing data storages (AWS S3/Athena/Redshift)

• Significant working experience with big data tools for modeling and workflows automation (e.g. DBT - Data build tool- and Argo Workflow, comfortable with docker containers & bash scripts, etc)

• Proficiency in programming and code development, especially in Python (core Python, knowledge of the main frameworks and packages for data science)

• Proficiency in data modeling, database design (relational as well as non-relational databases), and query languages (e.g. SQL, including DDL statements)

• Strong teamwork skills, attention to detail, and comfortable in working with fluid and complex organizational structures across an array of brands, departments, and teams in multiple locations, as you will need to build and maintain cross-functional relationships

• Fluency in English
